Aperture is the opening that lets light into a photo. The aperture and focal length of an optical system determine the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane. The size of the diaphragm opening in a camera lens regulates the amount of light that passes through onto the film inside the camera and the moment when the shutter curtain in a camera opens during an exposure process.
